On the Coronavirus…

COVID-19 developments unfold please know that we are closely monitoring the impacts on public health and the Cortland County business community. Working with our local, regional, state, and national partners we will do our best to provide information you can count on in formulating your own approaches to the crisis.

We have already taken steps to protect public health with the cancellation of our annual dinner saluting the county’s agricultural community, and we will not be scheduling face-to-face meetings at our office until the situation is resolved. The office is closed, with staff working remotely.

Finally, we want to underscore the importance of following Center for Disease Control and health department guidelines about how you can best protect yourselves and your employees in the days and weeks ahead. These practices include good personal hygiene (wash your hands), a commitment to social distancing, cleaning public surfaces when possible, supporting working from home and enactment of policies that allow employees to stay home if sick.

SBA Disaster Loans Available

Eligible small businesses may now apply for an SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) by accessing the website at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/apply-for-disaster-loan/index.html. The site includes instructions for uploading documents and has links to all of the relevant forms (you may need to clear your browser cache if you receive an error message accessing this page). Cortland County Hazard Mitigation Plan

The Cortland County Emergency Response and Communications is leading the update of the countywide HMP. This plan is an opportunity to detail a variety of potential hazards that could affect some or all our our residents and will also allow the county and participating municipalities to be eligible for future mitigation funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The goal of the plan is to identify projects that can reduce damages from future hazards. The plan will include a risk assessment and a hazard mitigation strategy. The primary natural hazards of concern in the current County HMP include: Severe Storm, Severe Winter Storm, Earthquake, and Flood.  The 2020 update will review and update the hazards of concern as necessary due to any changes in risk.

The study will focus on existing buildings and potential future development, infrastructure, and critical facilities that might be impacted.  Critical facilities include but are not limited to municipal buildings and infrastructure such as power-generation facilities, water utilities, roadways, railroads and communication systems.
